Simple Guidelines for Interacting with a Service Dog Team
- Please never approach a Guide Dog or a Service-Work Dog assisting someone on crutches or in a Wheelchair, unless of course they’re in danger.
- DO NOT attempt to distract a working Guide Dog or Service-Work Dog. This includes whistling, offering FOOD or TREATS, clapping your hands or snapping your fingers and or making any type of clicking noises to distract the Service Animal in any way. Especially, while at or during a crossing.
- Please DO NOT approach a Working Dog on a busy street, in parking lots or at any crossings.
- While accompanying a Service Dog Team, please stay with them during all CROSSINGS. DO NOT hurry ahead of the team.
- Please if you’re PARKED next to a Service Animal and you see they’re EXITING or ENTERING a vehicle, please be patient. Service Animals are living beings, not machines that can be fixed.
- If you’re near a Service-Work Dog always speak to the person first. Otherwise, please DO NOT DISTRACT Service-Work Dog.
- Never touch a Service-Work Dog, or any dog for that matter, without asking first and receiving permission.
- DO NOT make inquiries as to the handler’s disability. DO NOT be offended if the handler opts not to chat about the Service-Work Dog.
- In reality, the best action one can take when they encounter a Service Dog Team is to simply go about their business and allow the team to do theirs and leave.

For the safety of your pet , public safety and for the safety of persons with disabilities and their service dogs. We ask, please do not put a service vest on pet! For this will not make them an officially trained service dog! Thank you!
SEPTEMBER IS SERVICE DOG AWARENESS MONTH!
SEPTEMBER is Service Dog Awareness Month, but here at the Sir Romeo Beau Project, every month is Service Dog Awareness Month! We are here to help educate and celebrate every day officially trained service dogs and team partners! Author and founder James R. Pullen established the Sir Romeo Beau Project in 2012. During this time, James wrote “The Adventures of Sir Romeo Beau Service Dog” Children's Book Series with the intention of public education on the importance of service dog training including the many struggles real service dog teams go through every day when encountering imposter service dogs. Education and awareness is the key. We want to express our deep appreciation for service dog training professionals for it is also their job to evaluate and determine if a dog has the potential of becoming a service animal. Service dog training allows for the service animals to work safely and appropriately in public places, including air travel, due to the proliferation of untrained personal pets.
